Trying to create a Slack Bot

Hello!
So, I am building a blog creation tool for company. It is going to be integrated into one of their slack channels (a brand new one I build)

Its sort of like a slack bot I guess? the goal is to ask the user two questions to gather some immediate data (No AI, just input nodes im assuming)

I then want to generate an outline of their blog article with AI and the data we collected. I was wondering if you guys think I should use Slack Canvas writer? Block kit? or just go straight to google docs?

This would be the format (it would hopefully include the images they added): [After receiving content and media] "Based on your story and materials, here’s a suggested outline: [Generated outline with:

  • Proposed title
  • Key sections
  • Placement of quotes/media
  • Approximate section lengths]

How does this outline feel? You can:

  1. Approve it and add more details to any section
  2. Request specific changes
  3. Nothing else is needed an finalize the blog

Then, this is when the if/then nodes come in to play. If they are okay with it - we finalize the blog. If they dont, its back to previous step.

After that step, and the final draft is built we would say: " Here’s your draft! Please review and let me know if there are any changes you would like to make!"

SO, ive been trying for two hours and cant get the slack portion down. The core functionality of this is relatively basic, I could build in 15 minutes with a custom GPT. The difficult part is:

  1. integrating in slack
  2. formatting effectively (Canvas writer? Docs?)
  3. and eventually I will want to add a knowledge base of all of their blogs to improve its writing

Sorry this is so long, I appreciate you guys alot - thanks!

Thank you for sharing your use case @natepratt but I’m not exactly sure where you’re getting stuck with Gumloop here. Could you share your workbook and run links, explain what you’ve tried so far and what the current blocker is?

As for your question regarding the blog output, I believe all the options would work but the Slack Canvas would be the most suitable here. You can format the data in markdown and it can be saved neatly in your Slack workspace.

Appreciate the timely response brother!

I was getting confused with how to actually implement Slack aspect. That node in particular is just causing me problems, Cant find any extensive resources on it.

Tbh, i’m a Gumloop novice and thankfully Max gave me a solid run down on another workflow last night which reignited my hope… but he was most definitely hand holding.

I see. Can you elaborate a bit more on what exactly is causing problems with the Slack node?

Please also share your workbook and run links (from the history page).

For the Slack channel to appear in the node the Gumloop bot must be in the channel. Here are the steps:

  1. Type /invite @Gumloop in the channel, OR
  2. Click the channel name → Add integrations/Add app → Search for “Gumloop”

https://docs.gumloop.com/nodes/integrations/slack_message_reader

Thanks for sending slack docs, Ill restart and take a look at that.

I am honestly looking for someone to coach / teach me how to construct around 7 workflows. I am ready to pay, any advice on finding that person?

You can post in Hire a Gumloop Expert for that or if you’re interested in self-learning (not 1:1 coaching) you can sign-up for Gumloop’s educational cohort here: https://www.gumloop.com/interface/Apply-To-Join-A-Gumloop-Learning-Cohort-9DyTX6PkwiDQLS2R3kD5x4

This is going to be a big a bot so im tying to start small! I basically just want user to send message in slack, the bot creates thread and replies, user then gives the bot information, we then take that information and process a response with AI and send it back via canvas writer.

it keeps looping canvas writer ! thanks so much for your help man… you deserve a fat raise

Gotcha. I’ve requested access to view the flow. You can also enable ‘anyone with the link can view’ under the share button.

Can you also share the run link from the history page where the flow is looping over the Canvas writer?

Give this a try:

I def saw some weird looping as well.

Can you share the run link from the https://www.gumloop.com/history page please so I can view the actual automation run.

did you just build that entire thing for me?! No way, thanks so much @ai_doer

Please email me! I would love to connect
